RIBA Award win for Library Walk
Our creative and meticulous work on the Library Walk link building for Manchester City Council (MCC) has been applauded by our RIBA peers. In the judges’ own words, ‘What sets this building apart from some other examples is the quality and rigour of detailing and materials.’
The Library Walk link building responds directly to the tapering, crescent shaped nature of the existing pedestrian route, Library Walk, between the two contrasting Grade II* listed buildings and to the characterful façades of the buildings themselves. Developed in close consultation with Historic England and MCC’s Conservation Officer, the curvilinear building provides level access into and between Manchester Town Hall Extension (which we also delivered) and Manchester Central Library, simplifying service delivery and improving accessibility and fire escape measures.
Our client, MCC is also celebrating being named RIBA North West’s Client of the Year, thanks to the Library Walk win, Ryder’s Architecture’s award for Manchester Central Library and Mecanoo’s award for Home.
