Set to become a Motto by Hilton hotel, the project comprises 154-bedroom hotel and will maximise a small site bounded by Great Ancoats Street. Located within a vibrant corner of Manchester, there are a variety of amenities and attractions within the immediate vicinity of the site, making this an ideal location for a new hotel.
This development responds to a wider demand for premium hotel accommodation in Manchester, as well as playing a key role in the ongoing regeneration of the Ancoats area. This high-quality, 20 storey hotel sits in a strategic and highly accessible location in the city centre, marking itself as a staple development in an upcoming region. The hotel is expected to support around 85,000 visitors a year.
The proposal is conceived as a pair of elegant and slender interlocking building forms, with openings ‘carved’ into the forms. The contextual brick finish acknowledges the adjacent context of warehouses and brick residential buildings, drawing inspiration to establish a relationship with the local fabric. The brick palette is expressed as a grid, separating recessed window openings and chamfered reveals, varying in scale to articulate each façade according to function and to integrate the building into its surrounding context. The window and reveal articulation are expressed as 2-storey elements, providing verticality to the façade, which enhances its overall slender appearance.
The main building form grounds itself on Laystall Street, and is articulated with large, glazed openings to the amenity areas on the lower floors, helping to connect the building to the local environment. The hotel will feature a gym, bar and restaurant, and meeting rooms to compliment the leisure provision. With a commitment to improving the public realm, the development extends its grounds, creating an inviting space that promotes interaction and pedestrian flow.
