Project Progress

We celebrated the successful completion of five projects this year. It was wonderful to see River Street and New Wakefield Street, purpose-built student accommodation projects, reach completion in Manchester, welcoming around 1,395 students through their doors.

Mason Street, a nine-storey 224-bed Staycity aparthotel, which forms part of Manchester's New Cross Neighbourhood Development Framework, also successfully completed.

Manchester New Square, a new mixed-use scheme comprising three residential buildings in the city's historic Whitworth Street conservation area, provided 351 new homes.

It was also amazing to see the completion of Deansgate Square, a high-density development that has created a new destination for city centre living. Many of the SimpsonHaugh team, across both the Manchester and London offices, have worked on this project over the 15 years that we've been involved with the site, so it was incredible to see it completed.

In other project news, we also saw many of our schemes get started on site, including Viadux, 4 Angel Square, Victoria House, Swan House, First Street South, and Stanley Square.

Awards and Successes

It's always humbling to have our work acknowledged by other. This year, we saw many of our projects shortlisted for awards. 14 Westfield Avenue, London, was shortlisted in the Workplace (10,000sqm and over) category at the AJ Architecture Awards. Burlington House, Manchester, was shortlisted in the Medium Housing Development category at the Brick Awards. 82 West India Dock Road, Westferry, was also shortlisted for the Mixed-Use (Future) category at The PLAN Awards. We also saw New Wakefield Street, Manchester, shortlisted for the Construction News Awards in the Project of the Year (£20m - £50m) category. These are all prestigious awards, and we were pleased to see these projects shortlisted.

We were also thrilled as a practice to see Rachel Haugh, Co-Founding Partner, awarded the Manchester Society of Architects prestigious Outstanding Contribution Award. It was wonderful to see Rachel recognised for her achievements and exceptional contribution to the architectural profession.

There was also much success amongst the wider team. A number of individuals were promoted to recognise their contribution to our practice, their career, and the profession, alongside team members who have also qualified as architects, a fantastic achievement requiring tenacity and dedication.

We look forward to continuing strong relationships with both our colleagues and clients and are looking forward to moving positively into the new year.

We wish you a productive, progressive, and prosperous 2022!
