Despite being severely damaged by fire, the Grade II listed Merchants Warehouse was a valuable example of brick-built cross wall construction dating from 1827. Being experienced in working with historic structures in Castlefield and Knott Mill, we were appointed to restore the warehouse and explore opportunities for new uses that would be commercially viable.

SimpsonHaugh completely restored the fabric of the building while creating office interiors which met the needs of high technology knowledge-based companies. The project included the design of entrances and vertical circulation cores that combined glass and steel structures which were sensitive to and complemented the integrity of the existing masonry. It was also successful in exploiting opportunities for increased daylight into and important views out of the building.
