City of Trees is delivering a green recovery and tackling the climate emergency head on through the planting of trees and the restoration of woodlands for the people and wildlife of Greater Manchester. Working with communities, organisations, and businesses to build an ambitious movement, they are dedicated to planting millions of trees for the region.
City of Trees is dedicated not only to planting more trees, but also ensuring that they are well managed through the implementation of a 15-year maintenance plan for each tree. The organisation delivers a number of practical initiatives across the region, including corporate ‘Green Away’ days. The funds from these corporate volunteering days are also used to support their existing projects on the ground.
At SimpsonHaugh we continuously research ways to support and give back to the communities in which we live and work. We were therefore thrilled at the opportunity to be involved in a ‘Green Away Day’ with City of Trees. We joined 3 of their volunteers at Tandle Hill in Oldham to assist them in their woodland management work. Throughout the day we assisted with the maintenance of around 150 trees.
This was a great way to spend time outdoors with our colleagues, but to also make a real difference to the environment, wildlife, and local community. Trees and woodlands are part of the fabric of Greater Manchester and provide a huge array of benefits addressing pressing issues like poor air quality. We felt the Green Away day was a practical and hands on opportunity to make a real tangible difference to assist in greening Greater Manchester and we look forward to supporting the work of City of Trees in the future.
As part of a new initiative, we will now also sponsor the planting of a tree with each new team member that joins SimpsonHaugh!
