Project Progress
We started the year by celebrating the successful completion of two projects: City Village in Coventry and No.1 Spinningfields in Manchester, which was awarded Structural Awards' Large Project of the Year for the North West and NW Insider Property's Commercial Development of the Year. More recently, AC Hotel Cable Street in Manchester opened its doors.
In other awards news, Dollar Bay received two London Planning Awards, Best New Iconic Building or Scheme, and Mayor's Award for Excellence in Environmental Planning and Two St Peter's Square received commendations from The Concrete Society and Structural Steel Design Awards.
Holbrook House in London, and Manchester New Square, Burlington House and Deansgate Square in Manchester all continued progressing on site, with the latter's 67 storey South Tower overtaking Beetham Hilton Tower as the tallest building in Manchester.
London's Westfield M7 Offices, Coventry's Belgrade Plaza Phase 2, and Manchester's New Wakefield Street and River Street all started on site this year. One Blackfriars in London, Smith’s Dock Smokehouses in North Shields and University of Central Lancashire’s Engineering Innovation Centre in Preston are now close to completion.
Industry Involvement
In this year’s AJ100 list we are ranked 39th, and we were also a finalist for AJ100's Client's Choice Award, Building's Public Building Architect of the Year Award, and NW Insider Property Awards' Architects Practice of the Year Award. To champion tall building design, we supported New London Architecture (NLA)'s Tall Buildings Programme, and continued to proudly support the AJ and AR’s Women in Architecture campaign, NLA and The Architecture Foundation.
Responding to this year’s London Festival of Architecture theme of ‘Identity’, we presented London's Thames: The River That Shaped a City – an architectural river cruise across the heart of the capital, which ended with a panel discussion held at the Village Hall at Circus West Village.
One Practice
The highlight of our year though was travelling as one practice for a weekend in Antwerp. There we experienced a classical concert in and backstage tour of our first completed international project, Queen Elisabeth Hall, and explored the city - the perfect way to end a successful year!
